With the environment and economy the way it is many people have decided to take a closer look at some of the products and services they use. Dry cleaning is one of those businesses under scrutiny. So, if you’re wondering about the impact it has on the world here are a few things to consider.

Most objects that we take to the cleaners these days can more than likely be washed by hand instead. The problem with this is it requires time and patience, both of which are things many of us aren’t eager to spend if we don’t have to. This is why we end up taking so much of our resources and putting them into way and methods of avoiding that.

If you know the history of the cleaning business you might be a little wary of the fact that they used to be regulated by the government. A poor past can scare many people away from a service or product. You may even find yourself concerned that perhaps the problem that got them regulated in the first place might not have been completely solved.

Before the First World War cleaners used a different solution to get our clothing clean. This solution led to many injuries and deaths as it was highly flammable. This is no longer the case. The solution used today is called perchloroethylene and it safer than that.

The income that is created by these companies helps to feed thousands of families in the U. S. A. By providing them with your business you contribute to that as well. This is an example of the ways these cleaning businesses help not only the people who use them but individuals who care about the economy.

On the other hand there are two types of hazardous waste that they create. One is called Cooked powder residue, also known as “cooked muck.” It can be harmful to the environment and must be disposed of properly. In addition to that there is the Sludge created. Sludge is a solid that contains dangerous chemicals.

There is also an environmental hazard tied to these companies. The solvent they use (also called “perc”) can pollute the air. Not only that but they have to follow strict procedures in order to keep the pollutants from damaging and contaminating our drinking water.

You don’t have to use these services. There are home friendly options that can be done easily. The only problem is they aren’t as effective.

Don’t despair if you’re worried about the impact these companies have on the environment. There are ways to get your clothing professionally cleaned without doing any harm. GreenEarth Cleaning is an eco-friendly addition to this service. It’s exactly what it sounds like: a green way to look at the business.

Dry cleaning is by no way a bad service. It’s got its ups and downs just like many products on the market today. The important thing to know is that when you are the costumer education is key. You now know what questions to ask and weigh when deciding whether or not to use it.
