At some point in our lives, we all come down with a sore throat that can leave us unable to speak or sing properly. This condition could be due to a cold, flu, viral infection, allergies, or overuse of the vocal chords. The result can be hoarseness of the throat, redness, irritation, swelling, and overall poor vocalization. For singers, being able to perform is critical to their career. Fortunately, there are now many ways one can treat a sore throat.

To alleviate or prevent a sore throat, one can undertake the following treatments:

1. Loosen your vocal chords by relaxing and reduce inflammation by refraining from talking and singing.

2. Eat a healthy diet of foods rich in Vitamin C. This can include fruits such as oranges, hot lemon and honey. Blackcurrants also contain high amounts of vitamin C. If you are not a fan of fruits, there a number of Vitamin C supplements available. Herbal teas have a therapeutic effect. Add a bit of the sage leaves to any tea to help encourage healing and relief. Caffeinated beverages such as black or green tea should be avoided because they will cause the vocal muscles to tighten.

3. Get plenty of sleep.

4. Drink plenty of water.

5. If you have a throat infection, antibiotics will help clear up the problem. Make sure you take the full regiment, even if you feel better a few days later. Avoid singing and talking too much until you have finished the antibiotics.

6. Cough Syrup and lozenges are popular when treating sore throats. They can also help alleviate other symptoms associated with a cold and flu. Mint lozenges are especially popular. Eucalyptus added to lozenges provides a cooling effect. There are also a variety of throat sprays. Decongestants will help suppress coughing. One product that is becoming popular with singers with sore throats is the Vocalzone throat pastille. It is recommended for irritation relief as a result of excessive speaking, singing, and smoking. Sore throat products containing Dextromethorphan can also help to suppress coughing.

7. Make use of a vaporizer, humidifier, or rest in a warm steam filled bath or take a hot shower.

8. A natural sore throat remedy is hot water steam with added eucalyptus or peppermint drops. It helps alleviate throat pain and drains clogged sinuses.

9. Take an analgesic such as aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen to reduce inflammation.

10. Gargling with a mint mouthwash or salt water can help provide relief from soreness and inflammation.

11. Licorice is a helpful home remedy for sore throats. Take a small piece of raw licorice and chew or suck on it. The healing property of the herb soothes inflammation.

The speed of recovery from a sore throat will depend on the severity of the throat condition. Begin singing for a few minutes at a time in order to avoid a relapse. If you start coughing or become hoarse, stop singing and rest for a few more days.

A sore throat is a serious problem for singers and others who use their voice for employment. Taking the appropriate steps to treat and alleviate the condition will help speed up the recovery process.

Tips to Recover From a Breast Lift Surgery

Filed under: Beauty, Health — Amy Nutt @ 8:11 am

Breast lift surgery, also known as Mastopexy, is a medical procedure that lifts and reshapes breasts that have lost their shape and firmness as the result of aging, pregnancy, or nursing. When one has a breast lift surgery, they have to take great care when recovering. There a number of measures one can take to help make the recovery period easier and quicker.

1. In most cases, the physician will instruct the patient to wear a “compression garment.” These garments are available at many online medical device sites. They will assist with removing any harmful fluids from the body, reduce swelling, and improve blood circulation. They are normally worn for about 3 or 4 weeks after the breast uplift surgery.

2. Because breast lift surgery is a serious procedure, your body needs about 2-3 weeks of recovery before returning to regular daily activities such as work. To return to more vigorous activities such as exercise, one will normally require about 6 weeks of recovery. Avoid pushing, pulling, lifting, and any other demanding exercise until the surgeon says it is safe.

3. After surgery, patients should not sleep on their stomach. They should not have any added pressure on their chest.

4. Patients should take care when bathing as there are sutures that need to be maintained.

5. The most difficult part of a breast lift procedure is the first few days after the surgery. You will feel discomfort and some pain. It is important to relax and not move too often. There may also be some bruising and swelling, but this will fade. You should spend most of your time in bed. You will most likely have medication to take. Take it as directed by your surgeon.

6. It is important to keep track of any unusual changes. Contact the surgeon for such conditions as bleeding, increased bruising and swelling, or a discharge.

7. Do not wear an under-wire bra until the surgeon says it is safe to do so.

8. Sutures are normally removed within two weeks, but it takes several months for signs of the surgery to fade. Your surgeon may recommend prescription creams that can help reduce the signs of scars. If you have a susceptibility to developing irregular scarring, make sure you tell the surgeon to discuss your medical options.

9. There may be anesthesia-related problems such as nausea. The surgeon may want to prescribe something to help.

Breast lift Recovery will depend on the individual, so you have to be patient if recovery is taking a while. You will be stiff, sore, and certain areas of the breast may have little feeling for several weeks. You should be able to get up and walk around a day after the surgery. You should have someone with you during the most difficult part of recovery. Keep in contact with your surgeon during the entire recovery process.

Because recovering from a breast lift surgery takes time and patience, it is important that you engage in activities that will not inhibit the recovery process.

Filed under: Health — admin @ 9:19 am

Introduction

If you are nervous about the lack of a family doctor for your family, the good news is that you are not alone. There is a general shortage of doctors in the country and for that reason there are many people even in the prosperous provinces that do not have a regular family doctor. There are steps that you can take to ensure that you get a family doctor however and some of those steps are listed below. You can follow some of them or all of them as is your wish and chances are the suggestions below will probably give you some extra ideas as well. Chirurgie Esthetique Montreal

Yellow Pages

The Yellow Pages is a directory that exists in Canada for all Canadians to use. It is an excellent source of information on any industry that operates within the country since people know that advertising within the Yellow Pages will get their message across to everyone in the country. If you are looking for a family physician that is located in your area, then naturally the best place for you to start would be with the Yellow Pages directory.

The directory is available in paper format, although there is also a website available for it if you would rather search online. The same records are contained in both, so it is merely a matter of personal preference. Online, you can search for keywords like doctor or family doctor and enter your postal code to see what information comes up in areas that are close to your house. Offline, the records are contained within different categories, so flipping to the section on medical practices or doctors would be the best way to proceed. In both cases, you should get a long list of names of different medical offices located in you area and you can then give those offices a call to see if they have space for new potential patients.

Referrals

Another way that you can find a good family physician in Canada is through the use of the referral system. Doctors and patients have a symbiotic relationship with each other. The doctors treat the patients and make them better from a physical standpoint, while patients ensure that doctors are able to make a good living from a financial standpoint. Because of this relationship, a lot of information is usually passed back and forth between patient and doctor and one piece of information that is often passed is referral information.

The doctor will sometimes mention a different doctor that a patient can go to for a second opinion, while the patient might bring more patients to their doctor. If you have friends that have family doctors, see if you can get a referral to go to the doctor that they have. If your friends put in a good word and the examination shows that you are likely not going to take up a lot of the doctor’s time, they might keep you even if they have a full slate of patients. It is definitely worth a try if you are having problems finding a family doctor.

Final Thoughts

Finding a family doctor should be one of your priorities because of how important it is. However, you can reduce the importance of having a set family doctor by making sure that your lifestyle choices are healthy. If you exercise and eat right, you will diminish the number of non-serious trips that you need to make to the doctor and that in turn will mean that finding one becomes less of a priority. If you are really having problems with finding a doctor, it is a tactic that might make you rest easy.
