The Basics Of Pomeranian Breeding

Filed under: Pets — Rosie Allan @ 11:48 pm
by Rosie Allan

Are you thinking about adding a Pomeranian puppy to your family? If so, you will be in very good company indeed. The Pomeranian has become a popular choice in a family pet, making Pomeranian breeding a more common practice. However, when the demand for a certain type of dog is high, you will also see an increase in irresponsible Pomeranian breeding practices that will result in dogs that are not healthy or good-tempered. The good news is that there are ways to protect yourself from irresponsible Pomeranian breeding, to help ensure that you receive the healthiest and happiest dog for your family.

The first step in finding someone who practices responsible Pomeranian breeding is to stay far away from pet shops and other brokers who say they are selling dogs directly from a breeder. While this may be true, the breeders that sell through these methods are not acting responsibly.

You know that a breeder is the best route to your Pomeranian puppy. Next, you will want to select the one that practices the most responsible Pomeranian breeding to ensure that your dog is healthy and well socialized. Take the time to research and visit each breeder so that you are familiar enough with his or her Pomeranian breeding practices to make the best choice in your new puppy.

So now you know that a Pomeranian breeder is the best source for your new Pomeranian puppy. The next step will be to select the person that practices responsible Pomeranian breeding, so that you know that you will be purchasing a dog that is healthy and well cared for. There is some criteria that you can look for to know whether you are dealing with a good breeder or a bad breeder.

First, a good breeder will be willing to let you in to see the area where the dogs spend most of their time. This area should not be completely separate from the rest of the family, since socialization is taught and learned very early in a puppy’s life. The place should be fairly clean and look like it is maintained regularly.

Choosing a new pet is an important decision for your family. That little bundle of fur will be a commitment that will last for many years. Start off on the right foot by selecting your puppy from a breeder who practices responsible Pomeranian breeding to ensure that you end up with a pup that is healthy and friendly.

If you are looking for a puppy to add to your family, take the first step in responsible pet ownership and find a person who practices responsible Pomeranian breeding. Don’t rush into your decision on a family pet that you will have for many years. Take your time and do your research to make sure that you find the best dog for you. If you don’t know where to find Pomeranian breeders, you can begin by talking to friends who own Pomeranians, your veterinarian or check with the American Kennel Club for a list of responsible breeders in your area.

Don’t cut corners when it comes to selecting your Pomeranian puppy. By taking your time to do the research and visit with the breeders that you are considering, you are much more likely to end up with a dog that is healthy and a good fit for your family. Your hard work will be richly rewarded by the companionships of this furry critter for many years to come.

How To Find A Legitimate Bulldog Breeder

Filed under: Pets — Bobby Callahan @ 11:32 pm
by Bobby Callahan

Bulldogs are truly fabulous dogs. Besides their incredibly unique appearance which is unmatched by any other breed in the world, they also have a wonderful personality. Bulldogs are loyal, affectionate, good tempered and even good around children. They are easy to train and extremely devoted to their owners. Getting a Bulldog as a pet may be one of the easiest decisions you will ever make, but the process of actually finding one may not be.

You will need to find a legitimate and responsible Bulldog breeder, one that really cares for their dogs and wants to ensure that they are all healthy and that they will all be going to the best of homes. The process of finding a good Bulldog breeder can often be lengthy and quite trying, especially because the Bulldog is such a popular breed. You want to avoid dealing with mass breeders because these are breeders who breed as often as they can in order to make as much money as they can. They care very little about the dogs and could care less whether they make it to a good home.

The process of finding the right Bulldog breeder really does not have to be difficult, as long as you know the right questions to ask. One of the first things you will want to ask a Bulldog breeder is what the asking price of the puppies is, keeping in mind that you want to avoid any breeder who charges different prices for males or females or who charges extra if you want a pedigree or registration.

Another of the most important questions you want to ask a Bulldog breeder is what health tests have been done on both parents of the litter, because this will ensure the health of the puppy you are getting. You should also inquire about what temperament and socialization has been done because the breeder should have already exposed the puppies to as many things as they can including vacuum cleaners, children, house sounds and so on.

This way once you get the puppy home you will not experience fear or other behavioral problems as a result of a lack of this exposure. From this it is easy to see that the process of finding the right Bulldog breeder is certainly not always easy, but it can be done. The key thing here is that you ask the right questions so you can ensure that you will be dealing with the best possible Bulldog breeder.

Also keep in mind that no matter how many questions you may have, a good breeder will never get angry or cross with you or make you feel as though you are overstepping your bounds.

You also need to keep in mind the fact that any good breeder is not going to be angry or frustrated that you are asking questions and taking the process so seriously, and they will be more than willing and able to provide you with the information that you are looking for.

They may inquire about where you live, how large your home is and whether there are any children or other animals presently living there.

The Dog Rescuers

What happens to abandoned dogs, or those who run away, or get lost? Many end up in pounds where it is only a matter of time before they are put down.

The lucky ones will end up in an animal shelter; with a possibility of being rehomed with a new family; the shelters have encouraged neutering and spaying. This means fewer unwanted puppies from dogs without owners.

It is rare for the pet to be at fault when they come to a shelter. Death, handicap, illness or neglect could all be factors in their abandonment.

On the other hand there are a few dogs who got a bit too rough, possibly due to lack of training or to circumstances, for example the arrival of children.

Your first port of call when looking for anew dog should be an animal shelter as they have a whole range of dogs. You may even find the puppy you have always wanted right there.

There are some aspects to remember when you adopt from an animal shelter. The dogs rarely come with any medical history, so any future illnesses or conditions cannot be predicted.

The personality of the dog too is somewhat a gamble, so if you have children you might want to study the animal carefully and choose a breed who are tolerant with kids. He may have also gotten into bad habits in his previous house so a little training might be in order.

The first days and weeks are bound to be a learning curve for you and your dog, so be gentle but firm.

In the United States the Humane Society works for animal protection. A national NPO, it has its hub in DC. You will be able to find a regional branch near you wherever you live in the USA. It receives no government funding.

The work of the Humane society includes looking after the rights of both wildlife and domestic animals. It carries out its wok through legislation, litigation, investigation, education, advocacy and field work.

If you are looking for a pet the Humane Society can help; its local branches hold many unwanted animals looking for new homes.

There are ways you can aid the Society though. Adoption is a massive benefit. Fundraising is essential for the work of the organization. Volunteers make up a large part of the workforce.

These are the contributions you can make to the Humane Society. If animal shelters didn’t exist, the fate of unwanted animals would be a lot bleaker. So extend the same humanity to animals as you would expect to receive yourself.

The food of the dog can be analysed based on the nutrition that is required for day to day survival. The dog food analysis – reviews of the kibble is important. The necessary nutrition are a:carbohydrate,b: protein, c:vitamins,d: fibre, and e:other essential nutrients. One should provide the dog with balanced food. Otherwise the dog will be tired or unhealthy. Too much of food can induce the dog to mate and produce more kids. The life of the dog is very short. Hence frequent pregnancies of dogs are not advicable.

The carbohydrate can be obtained from the rice, wheat, corn and other food products related to them. The main objective of this nutrition is to provide good movement to the dog.The carbohydrate is broken into glucose and hence energy is obtained.

Dogs must have protein in their diet also. It is important for the growth of cells. Protein helps replace cells that have been naturally grown and shed. The primary form of protein comes from meat and meat products. A nice coat and general good appearance is due to protein.

Fiber is essential for stomach functioning. Fiber is found in many places. Fiber helps the stomach achieve a feeling of fullness, so the dog can remain active for many hours. Plant foods, green vegetables, and other plant items contain fiber.

What To Expect When You Have A Pug

Filed under: Pets — Jenny Donaldson @ 12:32 am
by Jenny Donaldson

Pugs are terrific dogs with a lot of personality. They are a toy breed, with a medium-small body, weighing in from thirteen to twenty pounds and are twelve to fourteen inches tall. They have a wrinkly face and big dark eyes that light up with they are excited. They have a lot of expression in their eyes. They are often companion dogs, but they have also been used as coach dogs, guard dogs and to accompany monks.

Though they have often been used as companion dogs because of their wonderful personalities, they have also been used as coach dogs and guard dogs. The name of Pug is said to have been derived from the Old English word Pugg, which was an affectionate word for a playful little devil or monkey. This dog is aptly named, if that is where it came from, as a Pug has a terrific personality.

It has grown in popularity over the years. It was originally breed in China, moving on to Japan and other countries, and eventually to England. Many of the monarchs in Europe have enjoyed this dog because of its personality, and it is a favorite among royalty and other discriminating people throughout the world.

Pugs truly love their owners, and are one of the most loyal dogs. They want a lot of attention from their owners, and tend to get jealous of they don’t get enough. They also can be anxious or agitated if they are ignored. They also love other dogs and pets, and children, as they are such social dogs. They don’t like it if their owner uses harsh punishment, as they are sensitive to the tone of their owner’s voice. They like to make their owners laugh, and they are usually found right with their owner, in their lap or at their feet.

The Pug breed is energetic, particularly in the early years. While they have a lot of energy, they are often a bit more difficult to train, as they don’t have a lot of patience for the repetitive training sessions required to be trained.

If you are thinking of getting another family pet, consider the Pug dog. It will be a good, lovable family pet, eager to please and with a wonderful disposition. It will be excited to be with a family to play with, and to entertain with antics to get attention. They are such wonderful companion dogs that get along great with children, visitors to your home and all sorts of other pets.

Altogether, the Pug dog can be a wonderful companion dog. It gets along well with humans and animal pets, making it an easy addition to any family. It will come to you ready to bond with its owner, and be fiercely loyal to that owner for a lifetime. It will be eager to please, have a lot of energy, and will often entertain you (or your friends) for the attention. While it isn’t one of the easier breeds to train, it is playful and its clownish personality makes up for the lack of ease in training.

Pug dogs can be bought through a breeder, and preferably bought as a puppy, while they are cute and small and can grow up in your family. A breeder can sell you one that is healthy and of good breeding.

Treating Dog Bee Stings

Filed under: Pets — Lee Dobbins @ 11:03 pm
by Lee Dobbins

Dog bee stings can be just as painful for your dog as they are for you, and they are more common than you think in the summertime.

Anyone who’s brought their dog outside in the summer sees that dogs just can’t help snapping at insects that fly past his muzzle. We’re not sure why dogs like to do this, but often the outcome is a painful sting in a sensitive part of the mouth or face!

When your dog reacts to a sting in his mouth, he will scratch and paw at the area that was stung. Your dog may also react by heavy drooling, which can alarm some owners that are not aware of the wasp or bee sting.

Some things you can do to relieve the suffering of dog bee stings are:

Clean the sting site with a mixture of warm water and baking soda. One tablespoon of soda to two pints of water is a good formula to use, and don’t worry if your dog swallows some – it’s harmless. Repeat the cleansing procedure every 10 minutes until the sting seems to be less bothersome to your dog.

Applying ammoniated quinine right on the affected spot can help, too.

Bee stings generally don’t upset any dog too much, but if your dog is seriously panicked or bothered you can give him a little potassium bromide to make him more tranquil.

See if you can locate the stinger, and if you can you might try to take it out with tweezers – that is, if your dog will sit still for that.

If your dog has been stung and is reacting irregularly, always consult a vet. The vet can administer a drug to stop itching, swelling, and other reactions.

Dog bee stings are just part and parcel of the summer experience, unfortunately. Dogs can get lucky – snapping at bees buzzing by may not necessarily mean your dog will be stung. Once I owned a dog that chased bees every moment he was outside and he was never stung (to my knowledge). But it never hurts to know what to do for your dog, just in case of a painful sting.

Puppy Teething Relief For Both You And Your Pet

Filed under: Pets — Lee Dobbins @ 10:21 pm
by Lee Dobbins

Every puppy has to go through the teething process, but unfortunately most owners are relatively uninformed about the whole process. It can be uncomfortable for your dog and trying for you, which is why puppy teething relief can provide sanity for the both of you.

Puppies actually teeth twice in their lives. The first period is at around 3 weeks of age. They get their baby teeth then. Generally, this process doesn’t cause as much discomfort or chewing behavior as the adult teething period later on. Sometimes owners may not even notice that their puppy is getting his baby teeth.

Your puppy will begin to get adult teeth at 6 months of age. The canines come in first, followed by the incisors and finally the pre-molars.

In order to save your shoes and furniture from the gnawing behaviors of your teething puppy, this is when you should seek puppy teething relief! This will also alleviate some of his pain, as well.

The chewing of anything by your puppy is a sign of discomfort. Many people will consider this normal, however, it is a sure sign of teething

Your puppy may be chewing your new shoes. Unfortunately, chewing comes naturally to your pet and you wont be able to stop it. But your veterinarian can supply a medication in gel-form that can make your dog feel better, and perhaps lessen his urge to chew. Chew toys are a good alternative; get your pet accustomed to them. Perhaps your puppy will find one he prefers over objects in your home

When your puppy is teething, give them cold things to chew on. The cold feels good on the gums, helping to reduce pain and inflammation. Place their chew toys in the freezer overnight so they’ll be ready in the morning. Keeping a supply in the freezer is a great idea, so you always have a cold chew toy to offer when your puppy needs a distraction from teething pains.

While the teething period is short, it is very uncomfortable for your puppy. You can help him through this time with puppy teething relief products. If you’re lucky enough to still have an intact pair of shoes, be thankful. You’ll need them to train your dog to walk on a leash!

Making Pets Part of the Halloween Fun

Filed under: Pets — Phil Sikes @ 9:11 pm
by Phil Sikes

During Halloween celebrations, many people choose to wear animal costumes of all sorts. Pets can join in the fun by dressing as people. Since pets often become family members in a very real way, going to the spa for treatments and traveling literally everywhere with their owners, it makes sense that pets would don costumes for Halloween, too.

Of course, the pet’s owner is going to have more fun dressing up their pet than the animal itself will have. Remember, though, that you know your pet best.

Some pets don’t like wearing clothes at all. If they are showing signs of stress or frustration, don’t force your pet to wear a costume.

Pets will do best with unrestrictive, flexible costumes. Hats, crowns, and other headgear are usually alright in addition to some sort of clothing that can be tied around their midsection, although it should be loose.

It is best to leave pet costumes simple. If they become too complex, the animal could decide that they don’t want to have it on and rip up the outfit in the end anyway.

The Internet is the best place to find Halloween pet costumes, although they are also available in many pet stores as the holiday approaches. Online costume sources often have pages devoted to just pet costumes, whose sizes are usually based off of weight.

Before putting your pet’s new costume on them, be sure to look for any pieces that they might be able to get tied up in or swallow. Most costumes are made to be safe for pets, but you should always double check.

After all the hard work you will have done to find a costume and get it onto your pet, the most difficult part is sure to be getting the perfect picture. Though some pets will be good and sit quietly while you take a picture, for most it will require quite some effort to get your pet to calm down long enough for you to enjoy their costume.

Cat Ringworm — Symptoms and Signs

Filed under: Pets — Kurt Schmitt @ 8:40 pm
by Kurt Schmitt

Cat ringworm is the most common infectious skin disease in domestic felines. It’s actually not a worm at all, but a contagious fungal infection that is easily spread.

In many cases this disease resolves itself, without treatment, within 6 to 8 weeks. Since it’s very common for cats to pass this disease on, your veterinarian may prescribe treatment anyway. Cats with compromised immune systems may take longer to heal and may not heal at all without treatment.

Ringworm is also referred to as dermatophytosis. It’s a fungus which feeds on the keratin protein found in nails, skin, and hair.

The disease gets its name from the round ring-like appearance seen on the skin. The classic ringworm symptom presents as patches of hair loss which appear as circular scaly areas with raised edges. These symptoms are fairly easy to spot.

The most common locations for infection are the head, face, ears, tail, and paws. Early symptoms include dry, flaky skin. In addition, you may see bald areas on ears, the legs, and around the eyes.

In severe cases in cats with compromised immune systems, more serious symptoms may develop. If left untreated, crusty lesions that may become red and sore, as well as infected may develop.

The symptoms list for cat ringworm includes loss of hair (or broken hair) in circular patterns and hair loss in irregular patterns. Also visible is scaly, bumpy, red, or inflamed skin, and possibly deformed claws. Your cat may scratch the affected areas, but not all cases present with itchiness, and some cats may experience little to no hair loss with this disease.

Only your veterinarian can diagnose cat ringworm. You should call your veterinarian if you suspect your cat has this illness.
